There are some specific problems with survey studies that could lead to an overestimation of the benefits of electronic cigarettes. One major problem is that a survey study of the use of advanced vapor products would result in a severe bias towards finding a high level of effectiveness of these products. The reason? By the time smokers advance to use products like open-ended systems, they have already experienced success, fulfillment, and enjoyment with vaping. In other words, limiting the sample to users of advanced vapor products filters out the majority of e-cigarette users, who do not experience great success and therefore don't go on to the more advanced products.

For these reasons, I believe that electronic cigarettes are a much more viable option as a harm reduction approach for smoking cessation.

The rest of the story is that once again, Glantz is lying to the public. He is so desperate to shoot down electronic cigarettes and apparently the actual evidence is so strongly against him that he has to resort to lying. The truth is not good enough.

Ads on TV and radio will be subject to scheduling restrictions to reduce the chance of e-cigarette advertisements being seen or heard by children. Furthermore, unless manufacturers obtain an authorisation for their product from the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency, ads for e-cigarettes cannot convey health benefits or claim that they are ‘safer’ or ‘healthier’ than smoking tobacco.

Stated another way, Dr. Glantz is cautioning the FDA against assuming that e-cigarettes are safer than conventional cigarettes in terms of their effects on lung function.

The owner led me to very large machine and explained most of the mixing was done with the machine. I was confused as I’ve never seen something like this before. Apparently all they have to do is load the PG, VG, and nicotine into the machine and the machine accurately measures everything out for them and there is no room for human error. The members of the E-Juice team then measures out the flavoring and injects it into the bottle before sealing it up. The pipettes used were mechanical in nature and held up to 10ml of flavoring. They had a pipette for every flavor the store carried so all they had to do was press the button and the precise amount of flavorings was released into the bottle.
