I don't begrudge the CDC for enumerating the potential population-level risks of the introduction of electronic cigarettes to the market. However, I do criticize the agency for fabricating scientific evidence in order to support what is clearly a pre-determined agenda: the demonization of e-cigarettes.

Dr. Benowitz: "Dr. Benowitz, as a paid consultant for pharmaceutical companies, has assisted them with the design, development, and marketing of smoking-cessation products. Among the companies for which he has consulted on such products are GlaxoSmithKline plc and its affiliates (collectively, “GSK”); Pfizer, Inc. and its affiliates (collectively, “Pfizer”); Novartis AG and its affiliates (collectively, “Novartis”); Sanofi-Aventis U.S. LLC and its affiliates (collectively, “Sanofi-Aventis”); and Aradigm Corp. and its affiliates (collectively, “Aradigm”). During the last ten years, he has received at least approximately $10,000 per year for such consulting. He has also received grant support for research and writing from GSK and/or Pfizer on at least five occasions. In 2010, he co-authored a study, funded by Pfizer, on the use of its drug, Chantix, for smoking cessation."

Moreover, the proposed regulations do nothing to directly regulate product safety. For years to come, we would still have exploding batteries, leaking cartridges, and packaging that is not child-proof. After all, it is going to be a minimum of one year before the regulations are promulgated, another two years before the applications are due, and probably 5-6 years before the 22,000 new product applications can be processed (and that is only if the FDA acts in an unprecendentedly speedy fashion). So we're talking 8-9 years before we see any meaningful safety improvements.

The owner led me to the back room where I saw two employees that were a part of their dedicated E-Juice making team. They all had blue shower caps on (similar to what nurses wear), facial masks, lab coats, and wearing surgical gloves.
