In a press release issued Monday by 13 members of Congress, a group of politicians claimed that there is "more" evidence that electronic cigarettes are a gateway to smoking.

The piece highlights Dr. Alan Blum's documentary which reveals that the tobacco control movement has degraded into a fight for prestige and money rather than a fight against tobacco-related morbidity and mortality: "On the 50th anniversary of the 1964 report, Alan Blum, director of the at the University of Alabama, released a documentary that highlights what he calls “the persistent foot-dragging, fear, and squandering of funds by public health agencies, universities, and medical associations alike in ending the smoking pandemic.” This is the real story of the modern-day tobacco control movement. It demonstrates that the tobacco problem is far from over, and that today’s leading antismoking groups have squandered the opportunity to continue Terry’s legacy."

In my opinion, New Jersey has no business pretending that achieving "100 percent smoke-free parks and recreation areas" is some sort of huge public health victory when the reality is that thousands of its casino workers continue to suffer disease and disability from exposure to high levels of secondhand smoke.

The rest of the story is that these Congressmen are insincere and disingenuous. They are also hypocrites. And they are trying to pull the wool over the eyes of the public. This is clearly motivated by a desire for political gain, rather than a sincere interest in protecting the health of the nation's youth.

The most interesting part of the study that I found was diacetyl can be found in all the sweet E-Juices. It was a known fact that diacetyl is present in most custard and creamy E-Juices as that is where the cream and butter flavoring comes from, but some of the fruity and sweet E-Juices and a lot of people in the community thought they were diacetyl free. Now granted Dr. Farsolinos was not transparent about the levels of diacetyl in each individual E-Juice so we can’t compare the fruit E-Juice diacetyl levels to that of the cream and custard E-Juices. However, I would assume that the E-Juices with creamy and custardy tones should have a higher concentration of diacetyl than that of the fruit and sweet flavors.
