The Rest of the Story

The rest of the story is that this assertion by the FDA - that cigarette smoking may be no more hazardous than vaping - appears to be more politically-based than science-based. President Obama, in his inaugural address, called for a return of science to public policy. He asked that science be restored to its rightful place. However, the assertion that cigarette smoking is not known to be any more harmful than inhaling the aerosol produced by heating a solution of nicotine and propylene glycol is hardly something that can be viewed as science-based. Especially when e-cigarette vapor has been extensively characterized and shown to be far less toxic than cigarette smoke.

The most telling point is that blu does not offer its disposable products in flavors other than tobacco (classic) or menthol. Note that the disposable products are the ones that are relevant to children because they are the cheapest and most likely to be used by kids. It is very unlikely that kids are going to unleash the money required to purchase the charging kit. Blu offers rechargeable starter kits that do contain flavorings, but does not offer the disposables in flavors other than tobacco or menthol. Kids would have to shell out a minimum of $70 for the starter kit.

I am not going to beat a dead horse and get into why the lack of evidence should not be a reason for supporting an outright ban. Especially since there already has been that has shown second hand vapor is a hazard to others that are not using electronic cigarettes. Instead, I am concerned with how the United Nations Organization that’s sole purpose is to battle emerging and current health crises.
