Many anti-smoking groups and advocates have been opposing electronic cigarettes on the grounds that these products perpetuate or even increase nicotine addiction, rather than decreasing it. But a new study presented at the 2014 annual conference of the Society for Research on Nicotine and Tobacco (SRNT) provides evidence that nicotine addiction levels are actually decreased, not increased, in smokers who have switched to electronic cigarettes.

Many E-Cig retailers and vendors have made contributions as well. Fuzion Vapes, for example, donated 50% of their profits towards Vape a Vet for the month of July. Ace E-Juice donates 10 bottles per month towards the project. Butt Out E-Cig donates a portion of their profits towards the project as well. Other vendors have helped out by donating free E-Juices and hardware towards Vape a Vet’s fundraisers. Many vendors seem to be more than willing to donate, but a lot of vendors don’t know this project exists. If donating isn’t an option, spreading the word about this project would be a tremendous help especially to the local B&Ms who doesn’t know the existence of the project.

Electronic cigarettes are not a cure for nicotine addiction, they simply give smokers another optionopposedtoinhalingburning tobacco.

In fact, it appears that many anti-smoking advocates and groups do not actually want smokers to quit using e-cigarettes. They would rather smokers continue to smoke than to use a device which looks like a cigarette but is actually much safer. After all, for most smokers who quit using e-cigarettes, advice telling them not to use the e-cigarette is tantamount to instructing them to return to cigarette smoking. The chances that such smokers will succeed with FDA-approved methods is near nil. In fact, the very reason that most of them have tried e-cigarettes in the first place is because they had tried FDA-approved methods in the past and failed or they had little confidence that such methods would work.

Stated another way, Dr. Glantz is cautioning the FDA against assuming that e-cigarettes are safer than conventional cigarettes in terms of their effects on lung function.

Clearly, the FDA does not believe that there is sufficient evidence at the present time to conclude that cigarette smoking is any more hazardous than vaping.
