The Tobacco Control Legal Consortium (TCLC) is urging the public to write to the FDA and encourage the agency to strengthen the proposed deeming regulations on electronic cigarettes. In a set of provided by the TCLC, the Consortium attacks the 24-month grace period for the submission of substantial equivalence or new product applications by electronic cigarette products, calling for the removal of this grace period:

Perhaps it should be no surprise that these researchers have drawn such a wild and scientifically implausible conclusion like this, one which does not follow at all from their actual research. Why? Because, as I yesterday, these researchers had reached the conclusion of their study years ago, before even conducting the research! In fact, they drew their conclusions when they submitted their grant application. So it comes as no surprise to now see that they are drawing pre-determined conclusions that have nothing to do with their actual research.

This story is particularly alarming, because it shows that for some anti-smoking groups, it really is no longer about health. It is solely about ideology. And apparently, the European Respiratory Society will cling to its precautionary ideology while smokers go to their graves.
