Yesterday, I reported that Drs. Stan Glantz and Simon Chapman issued against Lorillard for running an inappropriate blu e-cigarette commercial (the robot sex ad). The truth is that Lorillard had nothing to do with the ad, which was produced in 2010, well before Lorillard acquired blu.

The proposed deeming regulations would immediately prohibit electronic cigarette companies from informing consumers of the following, each of which is true:

"Analysis of indoor air quality during vaping sessions showed that e-cigarettes are not emission-free." This was the second time the authors used this phrasing to summarize their findings. Right now, that e-cigarettes are not emission free appears to be about the most alarming thing that can be said about them.

These studies are simply ignored by the Surgeon General's report and by my colleagues who have attacked me. It would be one thing if there were no evidence for my opinions, but it's hardly appropriate to attack an individual for expressing an opinion that is backed up by scientific studies.

The survey found that 74.4% of adult vapers most often use non-tobacco flavors, with the majority of these preferring fruit or dessert-related flavors. Only 22.9% prefer tobacco flavoring, and an additional 2.7% prefer tobacco flavoring combined with menthol. Fruit- and dessert-flavored electronic cigarettes represent approximately half of the market among the users surveyed.

I will address each of these two provisions of the deeming regulations, showing why they represent a devastating blow to the public's health and a huge gift for combustible cigarettes and in turn, for cigarette-related disease and death.
