The Faculty of Public Health has been a strong opponent of e-cigarettes in the UK. In its , it recommends a complete ban on e-cigarette advertising. It also asserts that the tobacco industry is using e-cigarettes to promote cigarette smoking, that electronic cigarettes may be a gateway to smoking among youth, and that there is no solid evidence that e-cigarettes can help smokers quit. This despite its acknowledgment that there is no evidence for a gateway effect and that there is evidence that e-cigarettes are as effective as NRT for smoking cessation.

Shockingly, no one stopped the experiment. That includes Luther Terry. The rest of the story is that Dr. Terry, who presided over the Tuskegee Experiment from 1961 to 1965, failed to stop the study, even though penicillin had been available for the past 20 years.

If the electronic cigarette companies are acting fraudulently, then I guess so am I. If you review my blog, you will find that I referred to what comes out of electronic cigarettes as a vapor until quite recently. It wasn't until several months ago that I learned that it is actually an aerosol rather than a vapor. I wasn't using a tobacco industry tactic; I was simply using the term that was most commonly used, and I was using the term that I believed was correct. I don't have any reason to believe that electronic cigarette companies were doing anything different. Moreover, it is not fraudulent for these companies to try to connote reduced harm. Electronic cigarettes are undeniably less harmful than real cigarettes.
