Instead of worrying about banning electronic cigarettes in every park, sidewalk, and beach in the country, anti-smoking groups should get back to the business of trying to reduce smoking: that means focusing on promoting smoke-free workplaces in the states that still don't offer such protection and embracing e-cigarettes as a smoking cessation and harm reduction strategy.

But it doesn't end there.

In contrast, however, to the lack of evidence that electronic cigarettes are having any negative public health effects, there is strong evidence to suggest that these products are having a substantial positive public health impact. In particular, there is evidence that not only do these products help many smokers quit smoking, but more generally, they increase population interest in smoking cessation, enhance levels of motivation to quit smoking, and lead to increased quit attempts among current smokers.

Thus, as revealed and described in this lawsuit brief and in an accompanying : "Drs. Neil Benowitz, Jack E. Henningfield and Jonathan M. Samet are conflicted ... due to their continuing financial relationships with pharmaceutical companies that make smoking-cessation products."
