Unless ANR has evidence that Mistic is owned by Big Tobacco, I believe that ANR may be in serious legal trouble. ANR is now aware, for certain, that its claim that Mistic is a tobacco company is false. So any continuation to make this claim on its web site is most definitely a blatant disregard for the truth. And there is no doubt that it is being done with malicious intent.

In fact, one of the complaints in the comment is that "E-cigarette companies are marketing e-cigarettes as healthier alternatives to cigarette smoking."

With that said, I can’t completely blame Senator Blumenthalbecause the CDC has been disseminating the false assertion that its recentsurvey demonstrated that e-cigarettes are a gateway to smoking addiction. So itappears that the lie originated with the CDC and then was adopted by SenatorBlumenthal. He may not be deserving of all of the blame here. The CDC must bearthe responsibility for originating this lie.

Hopefully, the New York City Council will vote down this proposal. If policy makers are interested in protecting kids from electronic cigarettes, they should focus on regulating the sale and marketing of these products - just as we do with the real cigarettes. It makes no sense to ban the entire product category, especially when we know these products are helping many smokers quit or cut down and when there is no evidence that the use of these products is causing youth to become addicted to smoking, or even to e-cigarette use itself.
