Tony Newman, the media relations director for the Drug Policy Alliance, has written a cogent which is a must-read for anyone who has been following The Rest of the Story and its exposition of the strong opposition to vaping from numerous (supposedly) anti-smoking advocates and groups.

I’ve seen caffeine infused E-Juice been sold before in the last few months. But I’ve never had any before let alone held it in my hands. To be absolutely honest, I’ve been afraid to try it! I’ve seen articles on the news about how dozens of people have gone through caffeine overdose and had to be hospitalized. This being a newer untested product back when I first saw it, made me very skeptical; however, I’ve always wanted to try it as I can never function in the morning without a hot cup of joe. Fortunately, a buddy of mine was willing to part ways with his bottle of caffeine infused E-Juice so here are some of my initial thoughts.

In other words, there appears to be strong evidence that in the UK, electronic cigarette use is not serving as a gateway by which nonsmokers are becoming addicted to nicotine and then progressing to real cigarette smoking.

Nevertheless, this does not stop the authors from drawing a conclusion. They conclude, despite their acknowledged inability to draw such a conclusion, that: "e-cigarette use is aggravating rather than ameliorating the tobacco epidemic among youths."

The problem is that in this cross-sectional study, there is no way to determine the direction of the observed relationship.
