In fact, there is no evidence for any of the three parts ofSenator Blumenthal’s statement. There is no scientific evidence thate-cigarettes addict children to nicotine. There is no evidence thate-cigarettes lure children into a lifetime of smoking addiction. And there isno evidence that e-cigarettes cost our society billions of dollars.

Unquestionably, there is still the need to regulate the sale and marketing of electronic cigarettes to minors. Sadly, and ironically, the only ones who seem to oppose laws to ban the sale of e-cigarettes to minors are the supposedly "anti-smoking" groups.

He has estimated that, if thess patents are successfully licensed, they could be worth more than $1 million to him as a partner in that company. Thus, Dr. Henningfield has a financial interest in bringing about regulatory policies that will drive current smokers to use nicotine-replacement-therapy products."
