This argument is fallacious, I believe, because there are many things that changed from one cohort to the next. The introduction of cigarette filters is only one such change. To assume that any observed changes in cancer risk from one cohort to the next must be attributable to one particular change - the filter - is not appropriate, in my view.

Furthermore, the Lung Association's position is not at all science-based. There is no evidence that electronic cigarettes are contributing to "more disease, death, and misery." In fact, the current evidence suggests that electronic cigarettes are contributing significantly to the reduction of disease, death, and misery.

Fortunately, I'm used to this treatment, so I'm not going to be bullied into backing down. I believe that a lot is at stake here, because a wrong move on the part of the FDA in banning filtered cigarettes could literally lead to an increase in cigarette-related deaths.

The rest of the story is that not only is CDC failing to disclose the important conflicts of interest of the 2014 Surgeon General's report authors, but OSH is involved in a cover-up. Apparently, OSH has deliberately chosen to hide these conflicts of interest from the public.

Had ANR wished to convey the assertion that some e-cigarette companies are tobacco companies, it could and should have stated: "Some e-cigarette companies are tobacco companies." The omission of the word "some," along with the capitaliation of the word ARE and the exclamation point at the end of the claim combine to construe to the reader that all e-cigarette companies are tobacco companies; that is, that they are one and the same.
