Although it has been a frustrating week, I have learned quite a bit and am not ready to give up yet. I have a new found respect for E-Juice manufacturers as I tried a week to get my simple recipe right and it still doesn’t taste great. Now some establishments (especially bars) have weighed in and allowed vaping indoors. I personally always ask the bartender or the manager on duty whether it is okay or not. It is a privilege to be able to vape indoors and like most privileges it can be taken away if it is abused. I’m talking to the high powered personal vaporizer users (myself included) out there!!! Leave your fog machine at home and instead bring your mod (or ) that gets the job done but doesn’t turn your local watering hole into a rave at anightclub.

The Rest of the Story

If you did not already know, New York recently would increase the tobacco restrictions back in April of this year. Even with overwhelming evidence New York lawmakers still insist on grouping electronic cigarettes as a tobacco product thus banning electronic cigarettes in most public places. This is in part of New York’s clean air act which is New York’s attempt of decreasing smoking rates among the public. However, it seems that smoking rates have actually increased!

It is clear from the overall evidence that electronic cigarettes are not as risky as tobacco cigarettes in terms of acute effects on lung function. On this issue, Dr. Glantz's comment is simply wrong.

For all of these reasons, I believe that the current evidence does not support the FDA placing a ban on flavorings in electronic cigarettes. Such an action would, ironically, have devastating overall consequences for the public's health, both among youth and adults.
