This assertion is demonstrably false. While it is true that there are a total of about seven e-cigarette brands that are owned by Big Tobacco, the overwhelming majority of electronic cigarette companies have nothing to do with tobacco companies. There are estimated to be more than 250 e-cigarette brands on the market. Therefore, the overwhelming majority of electronic cigarette companies are completely independent from tobacco companies.

Last week, I revealed that Americans for Nonsmokers' Rights (ANR) is making on its web site about electronic cigarette companies, claiming that all of them are owned by Big Tobacco and that Mistic, in particular, is a tobacco-owned company that is distributing misinformation based on a Harris Interactive survey it commissioned.

In a move that sounds more like a headline in the than an act of a federal health protection agency, the FDA has that it is going to protect the public from the dangers of "defective" cigarettes.
