The very idea that one would extrapolate from a study finding that vaping, like smoking, reduces exhaled nitric oxide levels to the conclusion that smoking may be no more hazardous than vaping in terms of its acute pulmonary effects defies scientific logic. It also shows a misunderstanding, or at least a misinterpretation of the meaning of exhaled nitric oxide findings.

Many E-Juice vendors are often more than happy to disclose the ingredients being used and where they are being purchased as these are mostly small business owners. They may not disclose the recipes in which they combine the different flavorings but every E-Juice vendorI’vetalked to has told me which flavoring company they purchase from and where to find additional information to see what the flavorings are made out of. Veryrarely do U.S. E-Juice vendors use any flavorings from China; most all flavorings are either based from USA or Europe (The Flavor Artist – another popular flavoring manufacture – is based out of Italy).

Frankly, I find it horrific to learn that the FDA - the agency which is going to supposedly be using science to make informed, evidence-based decisions regarding tobacco products - is not sure that cigarette smoking is any more hazardous than the use of fake cigarettes that contain no tobacco, involve no combustion, produce no secondhand smoke, have much lower levels of carcinogens, and have been found to acutely improve the health of smokers who switch to them.

It may take a Freedom of Interest Act (FOIA) request to obtain this information from OSH, or wherever this "secret" information resides, which is quite a shame given the fact that one of the major points made in the Surgeon General's report is its criticism of the unethical behavior of tobacco industry scientists who hid their financial relationships with the industry. It's sad that the federal government is condemning the past actions of scientists who hid financial connections with Big Tobacco, while it is engaging in the present action of hiding financial connections with Big Pharma.

However, the deeming regulations take away both the prospect of innovation and the incentive to introduce new products. Essentially, these regulations freeze the current market of electronic cigarettes, or at least of those electronic cigarettes which were most like the products already on the market in 2007.
