Ads on TV and radio will be subject to scheduling restrictions to reduce the chance of e-cigarette advertisements being seen or heard by children. Furthermore, unless manufacturers obtain an authorisation for their product from the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency, ads for e-cigarettes cannot convey health benefits or claim that they are ‘safer’ or ‘healthier’ than smoking tobacco."

The policy also states: "We give your information to the people and companies that help us provide, understand and improve the services we offer. For example, we may use outside vendors to help host our website, serve photos and videos, process payments, analyze data, conduct and publish research, measure the effectiveness of ads, or provide search results."

By blocking e-cigarette companies from telling the truth to consumers, CAP has completely undermined the very purpose of electronic cigarette marketing. The only reason these products are on the market and being used extensively in the first place is that they are much safer than regular cigarettes. If they weren't safer than cigarettes, there would be no justification for these products to even remain on the market. Moreover, they would not have become so popular among smokers because no one is going to switch to a product that delivers less nicotine unless it has health benefits.

I agree, except that I would characterize the material from which Dr. Frieden is inventing these "facts" not as whole cloth but as cloth full of holes, more like a piece of Swiss cheese.

This has to be one of the most disgraceful moves of the year by any medical or public health group. Even the multinational tobacco companies do not have the gall to promote a ban on electronic cigarettes so that their deadly tobacco cigarettes will not be threatened by this potentially substantial competition. In fact, the position of these supposed lung health groups is far more extreme than any Big Tobacco position, as the tobacco companies have entered the e-cigarette business and are not using their lobbying power to try to remove these products from the market. Sadly, it is these lung health groups that apparently want electronic cigarettes taken off the market so that deadly tobacco cigarettes can maintain their monopoly on smokers.
