The failure of the Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act does call for criticism. But that criticism should not be leveled at the colors Gold, Silver, and Blue. The criticism should be directed at the anti-smoking groups and politicians who sold out the health of the public for political gain.

In this cross-sectional study, a sample of adults who smoked at any point in the past 12 months was identified from a national household survey conducted in England between 2009 and 2014. Criteria for inclusion in the study were: (1) having made a serious quit attempt in the past year; (2) having used e-cigarettes alone, NRT alone, or an unaided quit attempt during their most recent quit attempt; and (3) not having used a prescription cessation drug or behavioral counseling during their most recent quit attempt.

The study enrolled 1,074 patients with cancer who were smokers and were therefore referred to a tobacco treatment program at a comprehensive cancer center during the years 2012 and 2013. Smoking status, nicotine dependence, and e-cigarette use was assessed at baseline and the patients were followed for six-month. The primary outcome was smoking cessation, measured as seven-day abstinence at follow-up.
