Financial interests in Big Pharma must now be recognized as conflicts of interest for any organization or individual who is offering opinions about national strategy, policy, or regulations regarding electronic cigarettes. Therefore, the authors of all scientific articles regarding electronic cigarettes must disclose any financial interests with pharmaceutical companies. Furthermore, organizations must also disclose any financial ties to Big Pharma when they offer recommendations regarding electronic cigarette policy.
If Senator Hannon were truly committed to protecting the health of children in New York, he would propose banning the sale of cigarettes, which are the primary source of nicotine poisoning among New York residents. Why ban the non-tobacco cigarettes which are helping thousands of smokers get off cigarettes, while leaving the real ones on the market to continue to kill New York residents?
The most telling point is that blu does not offer its disposable products in flavors other than tobacco (classic) or menthol. Note that the disposable products are the ones that are relevant to children because they are the cheapest and most likely to be used by kids. It is very unlikely that kids are going to unleash the money required to purchase the charging kit. Blu offers rechargeable starter kits that do contain flavorings, but does not offer the disposables in flavors other than tobacco or menthol. Kids would have to shell out a minimum of $70 for the starter kit.
Yesterday, I was informed by one of the contributing authors to the 2014 Surgeon General's report that each of the authors and reviewers of the report was required to complete conflict of interest disclosure forms. This makes the problem even more serious than it initially appeared. It now seems that this is not merely a matter of the CDC not knowing about, or failing to inquire about the conflicts of interest of report authors. Instead, this is now a matter of the CDC hiding, or covering up, these conflicts of interest, which are not revealed to the public anywhere in the report or on the report's web site.
My second vendor was a much larger store. There was space for people to hang out and socialize, even a lounge area where couches and a large screen TV was located. They had what they called a “Juice Bar” where people can sample the E-Juices that they sold prior to purchasing. It seemed this store had a large customer base already as they were very busy when I came in on a weekday morning. Their bottles looked professional done that is they didn’t print their own labels off an inkjet printer and put it on the bottle. The labels almost seem laminated on with your requested ratio, nicotine levels, and flavor that you picked. I was further impressed with the warning label they put on each bottle stating that the bottles contain nicotine and to keep it away from underage children. Most E-Juice bottles don’t even bother printing these on their labels as they figure it is just common sense, or at least that’s the excuse they give. Its common sense to keep a bottle of bleach away from children as well and they still have a warning label on it!
